The Hartford currently has an in-house remote work opportunity for a Staff Attorney or Senior Staff Attorney to handle matters in the Bay Area of Northern California. This individual will cover Workers' Compensation Boards in San Francisco and Oakland, California. The ideal candidate should be located within that geographic area for appearances. Our in-house, remote work opportunity is well-suited for an experienced Attorney who is dedicated to the practice of law and committed to excellent customer service!

Responsibilities:
  • Analyze complex legal and factual issues
  • Conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients
  • Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies
  • Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients and claims on legal and factual issues
  • Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel in a manner consistent with established office procedures
  • Deliver prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases. Independently prepares and presents witnesses and evidence at trials, judicial and administrative hearings, arbitrations and alternative dispute resolutions
  • Research, draft, file and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts on behalf of clients
  • Attend continuing legal education seminars in order to maintain high level of professional expertise.

Qualifications:
Note- This position may be filled as a Staff Attorney or a Senior Staff Attorney commensurate with a candidates experience. Qualified Staff Attorney candidates will possess the following requirements:
  • Minimum of 3 years of legal practice experience handling complex Workers Compensation cases
  • JD from accredited law school and license to practice in the state of California
  • Trial experience is preferred
  • Positive minded and collaborative team-player attitude
  • Strong legal research and writing skills Solid MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook) Lexis Nexis experience is a plus!
  • Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required

Qualified Senior Staff Attorney candidates will possess the following requirements:
  • Minimum of 7 years of legal practice experience handling complex/life pension Workers Compensation cases
  • JD from accredited law school and license to practice in the state of California
  • Trial experience is preferred
  • Positive minded and collaborative team-player attitude
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills Strong MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook) Lexis Nexis experience is a plus!
  • Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required
