Description:

The Immigrant & Refugee Services Division at A Non-Profit Organization seeks a Staff Attorney to provide legal orientation programming for unrepresented individuals and families in asylum merits interviews and immigration court proceedings. Under the supervision of a Supervising Staff Attorney, the Staff Attorney will be responsible for the following primary job duties:
  • Providing legal orientation presentations to unrepresented individuals appearing in immigration court, in order to help them understand and navigate the process
  • Preparing and delivering self-help workshops for unrepresented individuals
  • Providing referrals for social services and pro bono placements
  • Serving as friend of court during immigration court hearings
  • Working as part of the project team to recruit and train volunteers, manage data and reporting
  • Liaising with national project network on best practices, legal developments, trainings, and materials.
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities assigned by the supervisor

Required Qualifications:
  • J.D. from an ABA accredited law school
  • Admission to practice law in one of the 50 states
  • Ability to handle several projects and tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Prior experience working in a non-profit setting and/or immigration law is preferred but not required.
