Position Overview:
Summary:
Under the direction of the Associate General Counsel, the Staff Attorney prepares and retains contracts, court documents, pleadings, discovery, and other requested documents in auto insurance litigation, workers' compensation litigation, and commercial insurance matters. The Staff Attorney will also perform legal research and analysis and will be responsible for assisting in trials, motions, conducting discovery and in negotiating/settling cases. The Staff Attorney will also draft, prepare and send for filing hospital liens and release of hospital liens.

Minimum Requirements:
Education: Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school. Membership in State Bar.

Experience: Experience with contract drafting as well as some court experience preferred. Experience in areas of law relevant to healthcare is highly desirable.

Knowledge and Skills: Possesses excellent organizational, interpersonal, conflict resolution, and verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and ability to respond quickly in a fast-paced environment.

Special Training: MS Word, Excel.

Usual Work Day: 8 Hours

Essential Functions:
  • Participates in Legal department initiatives such as template agreement development and recommends to senior management on how to respond to legal issues or proposed changes in laws and regulations.
  • Drafts contracts for vendors, services, goods, employment, physician services, affiliations, and providers. Maintains contract system accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Interviews physicians and hospital staff to assess need for guardianship.
  • Develops documents required for court in cooperation with paralegal on a timely basis.
  • Appears in court to obtain guardianship as required.
  • Determines needs of CH for contract terms and conditions.
  • Exercises discretion and judgment when negotiating terms and conditions of contract in cooperation with CH staff.
  • Advises hospital staff on legal issues as determined by General Counsel.
  • Reviews periodically and updates CH policies for legal compliance.
  • Represents General Counsel on appropriate System-wide committees. Represents CH in appropriate community organizations as directed by General Counsel.
