Our experience builds on more than 40 years of impact through our founding organization, NO/AIDS Task Force. In 2014, we became a Federally Qualified Health Center to offer an expanded range of health and wellness services for anyone and everyone who is seeking healthcare services in Greater New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana.

Position Summary:
The Staff Attorney will work collaboratively with our legal team to provide direct representation, advocacy, and support through our medical-legal partnership for low-income, marginalized communities, vulnerable populations, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and persons living with HIV/AIDS. The position can be based out of either our Baton Rouge or New Orleans office.

Core Job Duties:
  • Conduct client interviews, factual investigations, and provide legal advice and counsel.
  • Prepare legal documents for litigation, including briefs, pleadings, motions.
  • Represent clients in state and federal courts, as well as before administrative bodies or tribunals.
  • Engage in research and writing on relevant areas of law, including housing, Social Security benefits, discrimination, privacy rights, state planning, and debtors' rights.
  • Prepare Wills and Powers of Attorney.
  • Participate in outreach and education initiatives to empower our service communities.
  • Collaborate on strategic advocacy and contribute to impact litigation where appropriate.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge about local, state, and national legal issues relevant to our service communities.

Position Requirements:
  • JD from an accredited law school.
  • Active Louisiana State Bar license, in good standing.
  • Demonstrated commitment to public interest law and serving marginalized communities.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is a plus: housing claims, Social Security benefits, discrimination, estate planning, and debtors' rights.
  • Ability to travel is required.
