Job Description:
The attorney in this position will serve in the Transportation Division of the Department of Attorney General, which is located in Lansing. The attorney will, under the supervision of the Division Chief or First Assistant, provide legal services to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). The attorney will represent MDOT in administrative hearings, circuit courts, the Court of Claims, and state appellate courts. Representation in the federal courts is also possible. The attorney will draft legal advice to MDOT, draft formal and informal legal opinions for the Attorney General, and draft and review contracts. Subject matter may include contracts, real property law, the Governmental Tort Liability Act, the No-Fault Act, eminent domain, and funding. The attorney will initially handle assignments that are typically of limited factual and legal complexity with substantial one-on-one supervision. As the attorney gains experience, he or she will handle sensitive and complex legal assignments with a high degree of independence. The nature and volume of assignments will be subject to the overriding needs of the Division and Department. Additionally, the time allocations for the Duties are approximations that may vary widely depending upon the needs of the Division, Department, and assignments made to the attorney.

Required Education and Experience:
Education:
Possession of a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law.

Experience:
Attorney-Staff P15
No specific type or amount is required.

Attorney-Senior 16
Four years of post-bar admission legal experience.
