An Energy Management and Automation Company has a meaningful opportunity for a Sr. Legal Counsel – Direct Purchasing based in the Eastern Standard Time Zone of the US. Position Summary:
  • Your role will involve providing legal guidance and support related to procurement and purchasing activities within the organization
  • You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, negotiating contracts with Suppliers, and managing legal risks associated with purchasing processes
  • Your expertise will be essential in facilitating smooth transactions, protecting the company's interests, and promoting ethical and sustainable business practices

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Drafting, analyzing, providing advice, and negotiating a combination of contracts related to purchasing, including supply, brand label, master supply, manufacturing, and service agreements of varying scope and complexity
  • Working directly with internal stakeholders, as well as with An Energy Management and Automation Company suppliers and/or customers, to negotiate complex contracts supporting An Energy Management and Automation Company's dynamic businesses, with development, product offering, customer projects or services and technology incorporated in An Energy Management and Automation Company offerings
  • Legal Compliance: Stay up to date with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards pertaining to activities within your scope of responsibility. Advise internal stakeholders on legal requirements and ensure compliance with policies and procedures
  • Risk Management: Identify and assess legal risks associated with purchasing processes. Develop strategies to mitigate risks and protect the organization from potential liabilities. Provide legal guidance on risk allocation and dispute resolution
  • Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct legal research and analysis on purchasing-related matters, analyze complex legal issues, and provide clear and practical advice to internal stakeholders. Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in commercial law and procurement
  • Training and Education: Develop and deliver training programs and presentations to educate internal business clients about current legal requirements, contract management, and compliance. Promote awareness of legal risks, ethical practices and policies within the organization
  • Provide Legal support on other types of commercial transactions, including support to internal business clients on contracts and interactions with An Energy Management and Automation Company customers and distributors on of a wide array of products and services spanning the energy management and industrial automation businesses

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school in the U.S.
  • Active Bar admission in at least one U.S. state.
  • At least 5+ years' relevant professional experience
  • Experience directly handling, drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts

Preferences:
  • Prior in-house counsel experience within a corporate legal department (law firm experience will be considered)
  • At least 5+ years' prior experience directly handling, drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts preferably in purchasing for a global organization
  • Awareness of data privacy law, cybersecurity requirements, and DPA negotiation
