The Opportunity:
We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Trial Attorney, Subrogation to join our Claims Counsel team located based in our Denver, CO; Anaheim, CA or New York City, NY offices on a hybrid schedule. Provides legal representation for Intact's subrogation interests before courts, arbitration panels, or other bodies and advises claim employees in their handling of pre-suit and litigated claim matters. Responsible for completion of caseload, pre-suit investigation and trial work of moderate complexity, whether by settlement, trial or appeal. The Senior Trial Attorney has the skills necessary to litigate subrogation files independently. Some of the Senior Trial Attorney responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Handles a consistent workload of subrogation files representing Intact's subrogation interests in property, maritime, financial and cyber matters. Responsible for maintenance and completion of caseload, pre-suit investigation and trial work of moderate complexity, whether by settlement, trial or appeal.
- Works with Lead Attorney on all aspects of pre-suit and litigated files including retaining experts, sending pre-suit notice letters, coordinating joint inspections and exams, initiating litigation and conducting all phases of litigation through trial.
- Conducts all appropriate legal action to best protect the subrogation and recovery interests of Intact on all assigned cases in an ethical and zealous manner. Prepares appeals and performs necessary research on motions.
- Obtains requisite authority from Subrogation Claims to negotiate settlements with defense counsel.
- Interfaces and provides counsel to Intact's Subrogation Claims department as files develop through pre-suit, litigation, trial or resolution.
- Reviews and reports all large loss cases to Lead Attorney, prepares timely reports as required and schedules/attends conferences with Subro Claims to review and discuss assigned files.
- Maintains a strong professional knowledge of legal environments and applies this information effectively.
- Interfaces with and directs paralegals and other staff in the production of documents and litigation file management.
- 7 - 10 years of experience litigating property and/or maritime subrogation claims.
- First or second chair experience.
- Substantial experience with research, discovery depositions, mediations and trial preparation required.
- JD required.
- Our salary ranges are determined by many factors including location, role, experience and skillset of the candidate. The following ranges displayed reflect the target base salary for new hires; however, your recruiter will provide more specific compensation details during the hiring process. The typical base salary range for this position is: $137,000 - $181,000, based on the factors aforementioned. For candidates located in San Francisco, CA; Washington DC; our Massachusetts based offices and the New York City metro area, the base salary range is $159,000 - $186,000.
