An American Diversified Global Insurer Company is seeking a highly experienced Senior Attorney to lead the management of complex litigation matters involving substantial legal and financial exposure. This role requires mastery of advanced legal principles, regulatory expertise, strategic litigation management, budget oversight, and client relationship leadership. The Senior Attorney will leverage cutting-edge technology, mentor junior attorneys, and collaborate extensively with Claims Representatives, insured clients, and external partners to deliver favorable outcomes while minimizing risk and cost. This position plays a critical role in driving continuous improvement and upholding the highest standards of legal ethics and compliance.

Responsibilities:
  • Legal Strategy Development: Craft, implement, and continuously refine sophisticated legal strategies for complex litigation matters by applying advanced legal principles and comprehensive knowledge of the regulatory environment.
  • Litigation Execution & Management: Independently oversee all phases of complex litigation, including discovery, hearings, trials, and settlement negotiations, ensuring meticulous preparation and execution of legal documents and motions. Manage and co-chair trials with exposure typically exceeding $50,000, leading negotiation efforts to achieve optimal resolutions that safeguard client interests.
  • Technology Utilization: Champion the use of state-of-the-art e-discovery tools and case management technologies to enhance legal workflows, operational efficiency, and remote collaboration across teams.
  • Client Advisory and Relationship Management: Serve as a trusted legal advisor providing clear, authoritative opinions and strategic counsel to Claims Representatives and insured clients.
  • Risk Evaluation and Mitigation: Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate potential legal risks associated with complex cases.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Oversee litigation expenses, trial budgets, and case timelines to balance high-quality legal representation with fiscal responsibility.
  • Training, Mentorship, and Leadership: Design and lead comprehensive training programs for Legal, Claims, and other departments to enhance team competencies and legal knowledge. Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to junior and mid-level attorneys, paralegals, and law clerks, fostering professional development and a collaborative work environment.
  • Continuous Legal Knowledge Enhancement: Stay current on evolving legal developments, industry trends, and relevant medical, scientific, or engineering issues affecting cases.
  • Organizational Improvement & Collaboration: Actively contribute to initiatives that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Staff Legal and Global Legal & Compliance organizations.
  • Ethical Compliance Adherence: Uphold and promote the highest standards of legal ethics and professional conduct in all activities. Manage complex ethical issues and guide junior attorneys in compliance with the Model Rules of Professional Conduct (MRPC).

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the bar in Indiana and in good standing; additional licensure for specialized courts or boards may be required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of successful trial attorney experience, with a focus on insurance law and complex civil litigation and as necessary, workers' compensation and/or No Fault law.
  • Proven expertise managing high-stakes, complex litigation with substantial exposure (trials exceeding $50,000).
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance law, regulatory frameworks, and client business operations.
  • Exceptional legal research, writing, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with advanced e-discovery platforms, case management software, and remote collaboration tools.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentorship experience within a legal team.
  • Superior communication, interpersonal, and client relationship management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple complex cases concurrently.
