Job Summary:
This leadership role drives IGS's regulatory and legislative strategy by building strong relationships with utility commissions, lawmakers, and industry groups. The director leads advocacy efforts, drafts testimony, comments, and other memoranda, and ensures compliance with consumer protection laws. They analyze, interpret, and communicate regulatory developments, resolve complex compliance issues, and collaborate with internal teams and external partners to advance business objectives.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Take the lead in representing IGS in proceedings before public utilities commissions in geographic areas where IGS conducts business.
  • Strong relationships with utility commissions, legislators and other lawmakers, staff, industry counterparts.
  • Assume responsibility for maintaining compliance with the rules and regulations in the states in which IGS operates. Draft mass-market sales contracts and research laws and rules that relate to compliance issues.
  • Assist in evaluating and advocating for legislation related to IGS's businesses.
  • Work with IGS businesses to implement compliance with rules and regulations.
  • Research laws and rules that relate to IGS businesses, including electric, natural gas, solar, and other renewable energy.
  • Analyzing and summarizing regulatory filings.
  • Participate and lead/influence trade groups and industry organizations to support IGS's interests.
  • Lead drafting comments and testimony at utility commissions and legislative bodies on matters that are important to IGS' businesses.
  • Be able to resolve complex compliance and regulatory issues and provide nuanced solutions to support the business."
  • Work with team members, business partners, outside consultants, lobbyists and lawyers to advance IGS' regulatory and legislative initiatives.

  • Learn IGS internal businesses and be able to effectively communicate concerns and needs of the business to policymakers.
  • Draft easy to understand documents that accurately reflect the intent of IGS or related companies.
  • Interpret rules, laws, and provide recommendations to the IGS businesses regarding the law, regulatory rules, pending or proposed legislation, and other regulatory or legislative items.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changes in the business.
  • Operate independently and assist in the preparation and implementation of regional strategy.
  • Detail oriented with exceptional organizational skills, follow through, and research abilities.

Minimum Education & Experience:
  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA
  • Minimum of 6+ years of legal experience and be admitted to practice law in Ohio.
  • Experience in energy is preferred.
  • Strong preference for candidates with experience working with energy law, utilities commissions, legislators and other regulatory bodies.
  • Strong legal knowledge and expertise in energy, regulatory, and/or compliance. Research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Salary Range:
$110,850.00 - $177,360.00

*This range reflects base pay only. Incentive earnings, like commissions or bonuses, are not included.

This role is also eligible for an annual incentive plan based on company performance.
