Job Description:Candidate must have a minimum of 8 years of legal experience in a law firm and/or in-house, preferably within a healthcare setting, with responsibility for complex commercial, corporate and regulatory disputes and litigation management. Candidate must have strength in transactional work, regulatory matters and contracting. Candidate should have significant experience with process and people management.
Essential Job Functions:
- Manage all phases of commercial, corporate and regulatory claims, including pre-litigation dispute resolution, pleadings, discovery, motion practice, trial preparation, and settlement negotiations.
- Oversee the intake, investigation, and evaluation of commercial, corporate and regulatory claims, including identifying the appropriate insurance coverage.
- Coordinate and supervise outside counsel, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality legal representation.
- Manage contingent liability reporting and recordkeeping
- Manage litigation reserves and budgeting.
- Partner with compliance, risk management, and finance teams to proactively identify and address legal and operational risks to reduce litigation exposure and improve claim outcomes.
- Stay current on federal and state regulations, case law, and legal trends affecting the health care industry and commercial litigation and communicating such changes to senior leadership and others as needed.
- Support internal training initiatives related to legal risk management and litigation preparedness.
- Leading with a people-first approach, fostering a culture of open communication, collaboration, and accessibility.
- Work with external parties (e.g., vendors, opposing counsel, outside counsel)
- Lead strategic initiatives such as consolidation of contract management systems
- Support efforts for value creation by legal department
- Other duties as assigned by the SVP, Lead Employment & Litigation Counsel and Chief Legal Officer
- Review and manage commercial litigation portfolio.
- This position involves providing legal services for various departments within the organization and for its various subsidiaries and related entities.
- Manage people and processes.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers; Endurance (continuous typing, etc.); Good concentration/intensity
- J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school
- Admitted to practice law in New Jersey and/or New York
- 8+ years' experience in a law firm and/or in-house, preferably within a healthcare setting
- Must be proficient in MS Word and have a working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience with insurance adjusters, contingent liability reporting and recordkeeping
- Ability to communicate competently, maturely and professionally with clients, outside parties, organization's leadership, physicians, etc.
- Excellent judgment and discretion, especially regarding confidential and sensitive matters
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Strong research and analysis skills with excellent attention to detail. Familiarity with Lexis or Westlaw.
- Superior written and oral communication skills
- Ability to prioritize heavy workload and multitask, while ensuring timely responses and accountability
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Travel:
- Travel to and from offices and satellites as needed.
- Travel to outside meetings as needed.
