An overview of this roleThe Senior Legal Counsel, Employment collaborates with clients across An Open-Core Company on a broad range of matters across the entire arc of the employment relationship, from recruiting to onboarding, compensation, performance management, leave management, separation, and, where necessary, litigation.
What You'll Do:
- Provide day to day employment law guidance to internal stakeholders across the NORAM and APJ regions
- Advise on hiring, termination, performance management, and disciplinary matters
- Partner with People team to implement employment policies and practices
- Monitor and analyze employment law developments across assigned jurisdictions; propose creative and effective solutions to address those risks
- Advise on, draft, maintain and review templates and policies
- Create jurisdiction-specific guidance and training materials
- Support rollout of new employment-related initiatives across multiple countries
- As necessary, lead workplace investigations including harassment, discrimination, and misconduct matters and provide strategic advice on investigation outcomes and appropriate remedial actions
- Manage employment-related disputes and coordinate with outside counsel when necessary
- Work closely with outside counsel and local advisors in complex jurisdictions
Core Requirements:
- 8-10+ years' legal experience.
- JD/LLB or local law degree equivalent and admission to state bar or analogous governing body.
- Ability to work with technical teams and translate technical concepts for legal purposes.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface effectively with all business functions throughout the organization and build strong relationships.
- Proactive, dynamic, and results driven self starter with strong attention to detail.
- Strong project management skills and ability to independently handle multiple matters simultaneously
- Experience providing advice and counsel to people business and team member relations partners regarding team member concerns
- Strong understanding of multi-jurisdictional compliance challenges
- Experience drafting employment policies, especially those that cross multiple jurisdictions
- Familiarity with employee privacy laws
- Familiarity with PEO's and alternative workforce management solutions to support a global footprint
- A strong mix of legal, technical, and business acumen that will allow you to understand and discuss complex employment issues
- Experience managing employment litigation, appeals tribunals, agency investigations, and/or negotiating separation agreements
- Experience advising technology companies or other fast=paced, global organizations
- Previous experience in a remote work environment would be an added advantage
- Familiarity working across multiple time zones and cultures
