Position Objective:
The Senior Compliance Counsel will serve as a compliance advisor and counsel to Samsung Electronics America, Inc. (SEA) and all North America Headquarters (NAHQ) divisions of Samsung. The Senior Compliance Counsel will be responsible for analyzing operational risks and leveraging best practices across North American business units by proposing streamlined solutions, developing proposals to implement those solutions, managing those solutions, and developing policies and procedures to mitigate risks and improve efficiency of the compliance function. Primary tasks include handling internal investigations, drafting compliance policies, providing detailed legal analysis for business issues that arise through normal course of business, advising on varied legal topics to ensure compliance with laws while taking a business minded approach. Senior Compliance Counsel will have regular interactions with Samsung's businesses and their leaders and will advise functions throughout the company.
This role will be based in Englewood Cliffs, N.J., and may require travel to other Samsung offices in North America.

Role and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Proactively work with Samsung's North America businesses to identify risk areas and gaps and develop tools to drive compliance within the businesses.
- Develop communications and trainings for employees to highlight key compliance messages and convey material changes within Compliance Policies and Annual Compliance Training.
- Revise, update, and draft new Compliance Policies and guidance documents related to emerging legal or business issues.
- Run internal investigations related to suspected Compliance violations, which includes conducting interviews with all related parties, review of confidential documents to determine potential policy violations, drafting detailed investigation reports, and determination of recommended discipline and/or remedial actions resulting from the investigation.
- Manage investigations database and compliance hotline.
- Provide legal counseling on a wide variety of legal issues including: government contracting, healthcare products, import/export compliance issues, lobbying and federal gift regulations, and sustainability related topics (substantive knowledge in these areas is a plus).
- Oversee the Accessibility Compliance Program which is legally mandated by FCC Regulations. This involves supporting the Customer Care team to address concerns raised by consumers with disabilities, providing guidance to Research and Development teams regarding designing new accessible design features in our products, and reviewing Samsung's web presence in the US to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Provide support on the drafting, implementation, and maintenance of Compliance Training initiatives, including Annual Compliance Training.
- Work with Compliance colleagues to ensure consistency and leverage best practices.
- Supervise and manage junior compliance attorneys and/or managers.
Skills and Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Juris Doctor
- At least 6-10 years of legal experience in corporate compliance and ethics programs experience
- Experience providing legal counsel to businesses on compliance issues and arriving at efficient solutions
- Experience conducting regulatory and corporate compliance risk analysis
- Ability to work independently while providing efficient business-oriented advice
- Demonstrated effectiveness with multiple stakeholders and diverse constituencies
- Executive presence combined with strong interpersonal and organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to proactively provide sound advice and exercise good judgment in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
- Experience creating and effectuating corporate compliance programs and procedures and implementing compliance training programs strongly preferred
- Experience and understanding of working in a complex global environment, including sensitivity to cultures and practices outside the U.S.
- Experience as people manager or supervisor
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years in-house experience strongly preferred
- Experience in conducting investigations from beginning to end
- Compliance risk assessment, risk management, or audit experience
- Experience representing corporations before regulatory agencies
- Knowledge and experience with some or all of the following subjects:
- Accessibility
- Trade and Customs
- Government contracting, government procurement laws, and regulations
- Workplace safety
- Product safety
- Environmental regulations
- Sanctions screening
- Consumer credit regulations
- Anti-trust and fair competition
