An In-House Firm is at the frontier of a biotechnology revolution with our pioneering proteomics analysis technology, and we are in search of a distinguished Senior Intellectual Property (IP) Counsel to lead our continued efforts to expand our IP portfolio. This pivotal role demands a seasoned expert to drive our IP strategy and safeguard our innovations, ensuring An In-House Firm remains at the cutting edge of the industry.

In this capacity, you will intimately collaborate with our company's technical, commercial, business, and executive teams to architect and implement robust intellectual property strategies that advance An In-House Firm' competitive stance in the market. As a core member of our growing legal team, you will be able to broaden your horizons by participating in initiatives that span a variety of legal domains pertinent to our company's operations and growth.

This role is located at our San Carlos, CA location and is a hybrid position.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the continued development and management of the company's IP portfolio, leveraging both in-house development, and external licensing and/or acquisition.
  • Manage internal and external IP resources in preparation and prosecution of the company's patent portfolio.
  • Continually update and implement company's IP strategy.
  • Take part in the legal department's fiscal planning, and management of expenditures related to IP.
  • Assist in the management of IP-related litigation.
  • Engage with senior legal, business, and commercial leaders at the company in evaluating and executing strategic initiatives and transactions relating to intellectual property.
  • Analyze the competitive IP landscape and provide critical guidance to company executive, commercial and technical teams on potential risks and opportunities.
  • Conduct periodic training for employees on intellectual property, confidentiality, and the safeguarding of trade secrets.

Qualifications:
  • A Juris Doctor degree from a reputable and accredited law school.
  • Over 5 years of in-house and/or law firm experience in relevant life sciences patent preparation, prosecution and strategy development and implementation
  • Eligibility to practice law in either California or Washington state
  • Registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
  • A broad understanding of current US Patent Laws and trends.
  • Exemplary communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Possessing a strategic mindset marked by the ability to relate the day to day to the longer-term Company objectives.
  • Must be a pragmatic business lawyer who can properly balance risk and reward to provide definitive counsel to the company.
