Description:
Description:SRR Group is seeking an exceptional Immigration Attorney to join its practice. This role is suited to an attorney who approaches immigration law as an advocate rather than a caseworker — someone who reads the underlying case law, identifies overlooked arguments, and is prepared to challenge the government's position when the facts and law support doing so. We are willing to wait for the right candidate. We are also willing to be flexible in hours and employment conditions for the right candidate.
The firm handles complex immigration matters, including removal defense, asylum, humanitarian relief, detention litigation, waivers, family-based immigration, and employment-based immigration cases. Many of these matters require significant legal strategy beyond routine form preparation, and the attorney in this role will be expected to take ownership of case strategy from intake through resolution, including identifying arguments for appeal where appropriate.
In addition to strong legal advocacy, this role requires demonstrated skill in client consultations. The successful candidate will have a track record of converting consultations into retained clients by clearly identifying legal issues, explaining strategy in accessible terms, building trust and credibility, and helping prospective clients make informed decisions about representation.
Responsibilities:
- Managing a caseload of complex immigration matters, including removal defense, asylum, humanitarian relief, detention litigation, waivers, and family- or employment-based immigration cases
- Developing case strategy and legal arguments, including identifying and preserving issues for appeal
- Analyzing and, where warranted, challenging agency and government positions with well-supported legal arguments
- Conducting client consultations, diagnosing legal issues, and articulating strategy clearly to clients
- Building trust and credibility with prospective clients throughout the consultation process
- Preparing and reviewing legal filings, briefs, and supporting documentation
- Representing clients before relevant agencies and, where applicable, in immigration court
- Maintaining thorough, accurate case files and communicating case progress to clients
Qualifications:
- Active law license and in good standing to practice law
- 5+ years' experience handling immigration matters with significant personal responsibility for case strategy and outcomes
- Demonstrated experience conducting client consultations, with a strong record of consultation-to-retention outcomes
- Strong legal research and writing skills, with a demonstrated ability to construct and support original legal arguments
- Comfort engaging with and, where appropriate, challenging positions taken by government agencies or courts
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal strategy in clear, accessible terms
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a caseload of complex matters
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
