Job Summary: The Immigration and Anti- Trafficking Practice of the Center for Legal Services (CLS) provides legal representation and advocacy to immigrant survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Under the supervision of the Managing Director of the CLS, the Senior Immigration Attorney will supervise the pro bono practice, represent individual clients, and participate in grant proposals and reporting. CLS serves An Individual and Family Services Organization's clients in a holistic way by coordinating services with other programs, providing a high standard of practice and empowering clients. CLS also serves as a leader in working for greater access to justice for immigrants by advocating for policies, laws and training at the court, local, state, and federal levels that are responsive to immigrant survivors' concerns.

Location: Hybrid Remote Schedule in White Plains, NY 10601

Responsibilities:
  • Recruit volunteer attorneys and summer law clerks through existing pro bono relationships and foster new partnership
  • Develop material for legal training and community clinics
  • Train volunteer attorneys and summer law clerks in trauma informed representation and substantive immigration law areas, including Adjustment of Status, Naturalization, U Visas, and T visas
  • Mentor and supervise volunteer attorneys and summer law clerks through duration of case assignments
  • Provide direct legal representation and advocacy to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and anti-trafficking in immigration law matters, including all aspects of preparing VAWA Self-Petitions, Battered Spouse Waivers, Adjustment of Status Applications, Asylum applications, VAWA Cancellation of Removal and other removal defense strategies, SIJS, U visas, and T visas
  • Conduct legal intake and assessment of potential clients
  • Manage grant portfolio to ensure that goals, objectives, and reporting requirements are met, including compiling attorney statistics, and analyzing data for program reports
  • Conduct training and community presentations internally and externally
  • Attend and participate in department staff meetings, agency-wide committees, and ongoing trainings
  • Work closely with Managing Director of Center for Legal Services and department in providing leadership and vision for strategic growth and direction of the Immigration and Anti-Trafficking units
  • Other projects as assigned by the CLS Managing Director

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor and admission to NY or other state bar
  • 4 years post-graduate immigration (USCIS/Immigration Court) experience preferred
  • Prior pro bono management experience preferred
  • Non-profit domestic violence experience preferred
  • Commitment to serving the public interest with the highest standards of client centered legal practice
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong project management and organization skills, including the ability to work independently, assess priorities, take initiative, handle multiple assignments, and meet deadlines
  • Experience and enthusiasm for working well with diverse clients, communities, and colleagues, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Fluency or proficiency in Spanish or another language spoken by the communities we serve is preferred, but not required
