About Marin & Murphy Law Firm
Marin & Murphy is a top-rated, boutique criminal defense firm with over 60 years of combined experience and hundreds of 5-star reviews. We handle the full spectrum of misdemeanor and felony cases in every district and superior court in Rhode Island, as well as federal matters when they arise. Our reputation is built on aggressive advocacy, meticulous preparation, and real results for our clients.

Job Description:
The Marin & Murphy Law Firm is a highly reputable, fast-paced boutique criminal defense firm. We are a team-oriented law firm that handles all types of criminal matters ranging from misdemeanors to serious and/or violent felonies throughout Rhode Island. We are rapidly growing and seeking a highly motivated experienced litigator who wants maximum courtroom autonomy, top-tier pay, and none of the administrative or financial headaches of ownership.

We are seeking a battle-tested Senior Associate with at least 5 years of dedicated criminal experience (prosecution or defense) who is ready to step in and immediately run their own heavy caseload of serious felonies and complex misdemeanors while earning significantly more than most “equity-track” associates at larger firms.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Independently handle a full caseload from arrest to resolution: arraignments, bail hearings, motions to suppress/dismiss, probation violations, jury trials (first chair), and appeals when warranted
  • Negotiate directly with prosecutors at the AG's office and in every district/superior court
  • Mentor junior associates and staff on strategy and courtroom presentation
  • Appear regularly in the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal and all statewide courts and Federal Court
  • Develop and execute sophisticated defense theories with the full resources of the firm behind you

Required Qualifications:
  • Rhode Island bar admission in good standing
  • Minimum 5 years of criminal law experience as a prosecutor, public defender, or private defense attorney
  • Proven first-chair jury trial experience on felony or serious misdemeanor cases
  • Outstanding oral advocacy, writing, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to manage high volume while maintaining exceptional client communication and attention to detail

Offer
  • Highly competitive base salary ($130k–$180k+ depending on verifiable experience and portable book)
  • Lucrative, formula-based bonus tied to collections and KPIs
  • Full health insurance, 401(k) with generous match, bar dues, CLE, malpractice coverage
  • True courtroom autonomy — you pick your strategies, set your own schedule when not in court, and first-chair virtually everything

How to Apply:
Apply through Indeed with resume, cover letter, writing sample, and (if available) a redacted list of recent jury trials and outcomes. Only candidates with 5+ years of criminal litigation experience will be considered. No calls or emails, please.

We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from diverse backgrounds.
