Description:

The Senior Counsel, Policy, Integrity & Compliance is responsible for leading Major League Baseball's compliance programs and assisting with other policy and integrity matters as needed. The role will strategically lead compliance and risk assessment/mitigation efforts by overseeing policies, procedures, and controls. This role involves conducting audits for continuous improvement; and collaborating with stakeholders across the organization to help achieve business objectives.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage day-to-day business-related matters, inquiries, and disclosures that arise pursuant to MLB-issued compliance policies
  • Develop comprehensive risk management plans for various business units and projects
  • Ensure compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations
  • Manage distribution of MLB-issued compliance related policies to MLB and Club personnel and third-party vendors
  • Enforce MLB's existing compliance policies and work to develop new policies
  • Educate and train MLB and Club personnel and third-party vendors on MLB compliance programs and related legal developments
  • Oversee disclosures and certifications by MLB personnel regarding MLB-issued compliance related policies, in order to ensure MLB personnel have successfully met all mandatory annual and periodic compliance requirements
  • Investigate alleged violations of MLB compliance policies in coordination with other MLB units
  • Track and respond to new compliance matters as reported through MLB's reporting tools
  • Represent MLB's interests in the legislative and rulemaking processes at the state and federal level through in-person meetings with legislators and regulators and testimony when necessary
  • Support MLB's business and operations units' existing vendor and supplier risk management programs including risk reviews, contract management, and ongoing monitoring
  • Report on the status of compliance and key risk indicators to executive management, clearly communicating complex compliance concepts and emerging risks
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to embed compliance and risk management considerations into business strategy and operations
  • Provide additional support to MLB's policy and integrity efforts as needed

Qualifications & Skills:
  • J.D. and a minimum of 5 years legal experience required
  • This position is based in New York City and requires in-office attendance five days per week
  • Strong oral and written communication (including editing) skills
  • Professional demeanor, organized, and detail-oriented
  • Ability to manage deliverables with time-sensitive deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and organization
  • Intermittent domestic and international travel required
  • Experience drafting corporate policies and submissions to regulatory bodies is strongly preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish (oral and written) is preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office required and advanced knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel preferred
