Apply today and take the first step to Destination Progress.As a senior counsel of employment law in our in-house Legal team, you'll provide counsel to all areas of employment and labor law for the business. This includes Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), the Occupational Safety & Health Act (OSHA), and analogous and additional state and local laws (including laws governing leave of absence and anti-discrimination). You'll serve as a strategic, hands-on legal partner to Progressive's Human Resources (HR) and business operations.
This is a remote position with occasional travel. While proximity to Progressive's corporate headquarters in Mayfield Village, Ohio, is preferred, it is not required. Candidates must be willing to work Eastern Standard business hours.
Must-Have Qualifications:
- Juris doctor degree or Master of Laws (LLM)
- Minimum of five years of post-degree legal practice experience
- Active license to practice law in at least one state; Active or Corporate license in state where working (or eligible to be)
Preferred Skills:
- Experience advising leaders on employee relations matters, including performance management, investigations, workplace policies, and compliance with employment laws
- Proven ability to manage employment litigation, including class and collective actions and single-plaintiff matters, represent businesses administrative proceedings, and prepare position statements and attend mediations
- Skilled in designing and delivering legal training for HR and business managers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, simplifying complex legal issues for business collaborators
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage priorities, assess legal risks, handle sensitive information, and balance legal and operational goals
Compensation:
- Base: $165,000 - $180,000/year
- Gainshare bonus up to 40% of your eligible earnings based on company performance
- Participation in our restricted stock units plan
