As a Senior Counsel, Employment at A Real Estate Agent Company, you work on exciting matters that require proactive legal guidance. You're part of a group of talented in-house lawyers and the projects you work on challenge you to think creatively and constructively. You are energetic and collaborative -- ready to partner in initiatives that influence all aspects of A Real Estate Agent Company's business and work with employees across the company. Your contributions will be impactful, value driven and you will play an instrumental role on the A Real Estate Agent Company Legal Team.

Please note - this is a 100% onsite position and will report into either our NYC, LA or San Francisco office.

At A Real Estate Agent Company You Will:
  • Oversee a range of employment matters across the United States from inception to completion
  • Partner with senior management, business stakeholders, and the People & Culture team to act as a trusted legal advisor, appropriately balancing business needs and risk mitigation, by providing advice and counseling on multi-jurisdictional employment laws and issues, including, but not limited to, M&A transactions and integrations, wage and hour compliance/FLSA, leaves of absence and accommodations, recruiting, hiring, compensation and benefits, performance management, discipline, and separations
  • Manage, consult, negotiate, and draft employment, independent contractor, and consulting agreements and restrictive covenants
  • Work on litigation and defense strategy, arbitrations, internal investigations, communications with federal and state agencies, and responses to correspondence from attorneys and others
  • Analyze judicial and legislative developments and structure and implement strategies, trainings, and policies/procedures to mitigate legal risk
  • Supervise outside counsel to decrease spend and achieve desired results
  • Contribute to Employment legal-related projects as necessary

What we look for:
  • Strong academic credentials including a JD and membership in good standing in at least one state bar
  • Minimum 6+ years combined years of experience, primarily in employment advice and counseling, with an in-house legal department (high-growth company experience a plus) and/or top-tier law firm with experience providing guidance to publicly traded clients
  • Experience with local, state and federal employment laws, familiarity with California, New York State and New York City a plus
  • Experience with the FLSA and wage and hour laws and compliance
  • Experience working on employment related due diligence in M&A transactions and integrating employees
  • A team player who loves to collaborate with low ego, who can effectively work cross-functionally with our People & Culture team, business stakeholders, management, and legal professionals
  • Proven ability to independently manage projects, and multitask in a fast paced environment, adjust readily to multiple demands, shifting priorities, and rapid change with composure
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with an ability to distill complex legal issues, think innovatively, and provide sound, clear legal advice to senior leaders and others
