The Senior Corporate Counsel at Mister Car Wash is responsible for leading a wide variety of commercial real estate legal work involved in supporting the company's two-pronged, aggressive store growth strategy – greenfield developments and acquiring existing car wash operations.What you will do:
Real Estate Transactions & Development
- Draft and negotiate commercial real estate purchase agreements, ground leases, easements, and sale/leaseback transactions.
- Complete all related diligence including title, survey, and environmental reviews for new site development.
- Lead legal efforts in acquiring existing car wash businesses.
- Negotiate stock and asset purchase agreements and manage all diligence required for closing portfolio purchases.
- Provide legal advocacy for development challenges involving zoning and use rights.
- Advise on real estate legal issues across Mister's portfolio of 500+ store locations.
- Offer legal counsel on day-to-day commercial and operational matters.
- Ensure alignment with corporate policies and risk management objectives.
- Partner with internal teams on real estate and broader business matters.
- Proactively identify legal risks and deliver practical, business-focused solutions.
- Coach and develop real estate legal support team members.
- Review and ensure quality of legal work produced by the team.
- Minimum of 8+ years of experience practicing law, with a strong background in negotiating retail commercial real estate agreements. Experience at a mid-to-large size law firm or in-house legal department within the retail, consumer goods, or quick service industries is preferred.
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in Arizona, Minnesota or another U.S. jurisdiction.
- Active bar membership in good standing.
- Strong work ethic, customer service orientation, and orientation to act with a sense of urgency in achieving business goals.
- Demonstrated ability to identify legal risks proactively and deliver practical, business-oriented solutions.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong academic background with excellent writing skills.
- Extensive experience in real estate related contract review, drafting, and negotiations.
- Demonstrated ability to operate with a high level of independence, proactively identify potential legal and business risks, balance multiple business demands, and work collaboratively with internal business clients.
- Ability to build relationships with and influence stakeholders at all levels of the company, including those outside of direct reporting lines.
