What does it mean to be a Senior Corporate Counsel, Contracts at A Company Provides Financial Services?
  • The Senior Corporate Counsel will provide counsel on legal matters as well as advise on the legal implications of all matters. In addition, this position will be responsible for ensuring the company conducts its business in compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations and maintains a robust compliance management system that enables the company to develop and adopt best practices quickly within the rapidly changing consumer and auto finance industry. The role will report to the Sr. VP, General Counsel & Compliance Officer and operate from our Greenville, SC office.

How will you drive value within the organization as a Senior Corporate Counsel?
  • Act as legal resource and offer counsel on all legal matters impacting the company
  • Oversee legal review of all contracts with third party vendors, including but not limited to:
  • Preparing, reviewing, revising, and negotiating relevant portions thereof
  • Maintaining Legal Department records related to contracts
  • Continually develop and improve policies and procedures around contracting processes, including developing standardized forms and clause libraries where appropriate
  • Advise on regulatory, legal, and compliance issues related to all areas of consumer and auto financing, including licensing, contract origination, documentation requirements, fair lending, loan servicing, repossession, debt collection and information security
  • Provide legal support related to the initiation and maintenance of new product lines
  • Provide legal support to Compliance-related initiatives
  • Research unique legal issues impacting the organization and develop solutions to complex legal questions
  • Provide legal support to operational units
  • Maintain electronic records and files that support work performed, results and outcomes
  • Foster a collaborative culture that facilitates the achievement of business plan objectives by working closely with other associates and members of management
  • Participate in special projects as needed
  • Perform additional assignments as required by the needs of the company or as directed by management

What should you already know to be successful as a Senior Corporate Counsel?
  • Minimum of bachelor's degree and Juris Doctorate from an accredited Law School required
  • Admitted to practice and active member in good standing of the bar
  • Minimum of four (4) years' experience as a practicing attorney required
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in the financial industry preferred
  • Unimpeachable ethics and integrity, as well as independent judgment
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal laws addressing all aspects of consumer and auto finance
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of contacts, including outside counsel, executive and senior management, industry counterparts and business associates
  • Experience with cost-effective management of outside legal resources
  • Intrinsically motivated with demonstrated ability to take initiative, identify needs, make recommendations for improvement, see recommendations through implementation, and evaluate improvements for effectiveness
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills: friendly and tactful with the ability to influence others, effectively manage conflict, exercise sound judgment, effectively manage highly sensitive and confidential information, interact at all levels within the organization, and build cross-functional partnerships across the business

Employment Requirements:
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check
  • This position is full-time
  • This is an exempt level position whereby business need will dictate the exact work schedule which should be expected to vary at times. Generally, days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00am-6:00pm
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required, including overtime hours as business demands dictate
  • Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand
  • The position does require travel, up to 10%
