About Storable
Storable is the leading provider of technology solutions for the self-storage, marine, and campground industries. We offer a fully integrated suite of products—including management software, payments, and tenant insurance. We empower storage operators to run their businesses more efficiently and help them maximize their revenue.

Overview:
The Senior Compliance Counsel will serve as the strategic backbone of our regulatory and compliance operations. This role is designed for the expert practitioner who can handle the "hard knowledge" tasks that AI cannot reliably perform: the nuanced, high-stakes interpretation of state insurance commissioners, regulatory bodies, and complex compliance landscapes.

This leader will operate at both a strategic and operational level, acting as the primary legal architect for our insurance business, while expanding scope to cover Data Privacy, Cybersecurity, and Payments compliance. They will partner closely with business leaders, product, and engineering teams to balance commercial goals with strict regulatory adherence, resolving conflicts where innovative product features collide with rigid regulations.

The Senior Compliance Counsel will bring strong analytical rigor, deep Property & Casualty (P&C) expertise, and a forward-looking perspective on using AI tools to maximize efficiency, though their primary value will lie in human judgment, strategic foresight, and the ability to navigate ambiguity. This role will report to the VP & General Counsel.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for all insurance-related regulatory matters, specifically regarding personal property and Property & Casualty (P&C) programs
  • Manage the complexity of multi-state compliance, interpreting guidance from State Insurance Commissioners and Departments of Insurance (DOI) to ensure Storable's products remain compliant
  • Oversee all corporate and individual agency licensing, renewals, and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Partner with business leaders to structure new insurance products and program features that balance commercial goals with strict regulatory adherence
  • Manage "escalations" where automated tools or AI cannot make a determination, acting as the human-in-the-loop review
  • Resolve conflicts where innovative product features collide with rigid regulations
  • Utilize internal AI legal tools to streamline research and drafting, allowing you to focus on high-value analysis and decision-making
  • Embed with product and engineering teams during the development lifecycle to identify legal risks in new features early, specifically regarding consumer protection
  • Develop and maintain frameworks for data privacy (CCPA, GDPR, etc.) and cybersecurity compliance
  • Provide legal oversight for Storable's payments platform, ensuring adherence to financial regulations and card brand rules
  • Draft and update internal policies to reflect the changing regulatory landscape

Required Competencies:
  • 4+ years of legal experience, with a dedicated focus on Insurance Law / Regulatory Compliance
  • J.D. from an accredited law school with admission to at least one State Bar in good standing (This position is a fully-remote role open to candidates across the US).
  • Deep understanding of Property & Casualty insurance regulations, producer licensing, and interactions with state insurance departments
  • Strong analytical rigor with the ability to digest complex statutes and provide clear, actionable business advice (not just "legal no's")

Preferred Competencies
  • Working knowledge or secondary experience in Data Privacy, Cybersecurity, and/or Payments law is a strong plus
  • Experience working in-house at a SaaS or InsurTech company is a plus but not required
  • Comfort working with legal-tech and AI tools to accelerate workflows
