Description:
Freeman Lovell PLLC is a roughly 20-attorney Utah business and real estate law firm built by attorneys who wanted more autonomy, more direct client contact, and a real path to practice ownership. We're expanding our commercial litigation practice and looking for a Senior Associate or Lateral Partner to help build it, with an established base of business and real estate clients to draw from. No existing book of business is required to apply. If you have one, we'll help you grow it. If you don't, we'll help you build one.About the role:
We're hiring at either the senior associate or lateral partner level based on your experience, not on whether you already have a book of business. You'll handle business and commercial disputes for Freeman Lovell's existing client base as well as any of your own, from contract disputes and partnership or shareholder disputes to real estate litigation and related commercial matters, from first client contact through trial or arbitration. You get the autonomy of running your own practice, backed by the infrastructure, referral base, and bench of an established commercial firm.
What You'll Do:
- Manage a litigation caseload independently, from intake through resolution
- First- or second-chair depositions, motion practice, and trial or arbitration
- Advise Freeman Lovell's business and real estate clients on litigation risk and strategy
- For lateral partners: bring and grow a portable book of business, with firm support to originate new work
- Collaborate with FL's transactional and real estate attorneys on matters that cross practice lines
What We're Looking For:
The only must-have qualification is an active Utah Bar license, or eligibility for admission by motion in Utah. Everything below is preferred, not required.
- 5–8+ years of commercial litigation experience
- First-chair or meaningful second-chair experience in depositions, motion practice, and trial or arbitration
- Strong legal writing and courtroom presence
- For the lateral partner track: an existing book of business or demonstrated origination history
At Freeman Lovell, the attorney is the main character, not the law firm. The firm is the supporting cast, here to make you shine, not to hold you back.
- Real autonomy over your practice and clients, backed by an established business and real estate client base
- Compensation built around origination and performance, with competitive, market-based base pay
- A fully remote role, with a firm culture built around reasonable hours, not billable-hour theater
- A collegial, entrepreneurial small-firm environment with an established client base to cross-sell into
- No artificial ceilings on what you can build here. However you define professional success, we'll support you in making it real.
