Description:
Summary:We are seeking an in-house attorney to join our corporate legal team in Raleigh, NC. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, this attorney will be responsible for legal advice related to all land purchases sales and leases (as both tenant and landlord), land management responsibilities, and working with other lawyers and functions, both inside and outside the organization, on land use, zoning and permitting matters.
Responsibilities:
- Draft, review and negotiate Letters of Intent, Purchase and Sale Agreements and all related closing documentation for land sales and purchases;
- Work closely with brokers, appraisers, developers, and consultants as part of sales process;
- Draft, review and negotiate all A Building Material Company leases, as both tenant and landlord;
- Lessor and tenant management;
- Responsible for providing legal support for all A Building Material Company owned and leased land across the United States;
- Provide local land managers guidance, implement corporate directives and manage corporate-level land management systems;
- Plan and manage A Building Material Company bi-annual Land Meeting for all division land managers and other related training;
- Assist and support A Building Material Company colleagues in land use, permitting and zoning efforts;
- Work on day-to-day real estate related commercial matters and transactional matters;
- Assist on other legal matters where needed; and
- Ensure all real estate activities are performed in accordance with the Company's Mission, Vision, and Values, and in compliance with the Company's policies, procedures, and Code of Ethical Business Conduct.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Minimum of 5 years' experience at a major law firm or similar in-house experience;
- Top law school or similar qualifications (for example, editor of Law Review);
- Substantial experience working with clients to acquire, sell and manage large portfolio of land;
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills with strong attention to detail;
- Ability and desire to work closely with business partners in many different substantive areas;
- Strong business acumen and responsive, collaborative attitude;
- Proven ability to take ownership of projects while working with a team;
- Desire to function as a true real estate generalist; and enthusiasm to continually learn new subjects, rather than simply leveraging expertise in just a few areas; and
- Flexibility and ability to multi-task and manage shifting priorities (our real estate practice typically involves working on dozens of small matters at the same time, with a few large ones periodically).
