Description:

The U.S. Senate Select Committee on Ethics seeks a Project Attorney to assist staff with matters within the Committee's jurisdiction including the editing of Committee publications and resources. The Project Attorney must be experienced and adept in legal research, analysis, and writing and possess outstanding written and oral communication skills. Applicants must be able to write clearly and succinctly, maintain flexibility in adjusting to changing circumstances, and manage multiple responsibilities across complicated ongoing projects. Experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable: government ethics, ethics counseling, copy editing, legal writing, training and education.

Candidates should have a J.D. and be licensed and in good active standing to practice law in a state or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia. Highly experienced paralegals with equivalent experience in legal research and writing may be considered. This is a 1-year position with the opportunity to transition to full time staff. The Committee is an equal employment opportunity employer.

This is a non-partisan position which requires the ability to serve all members of the Senate community equally without regard to their political affiliation and to refrain from activity that could impair the Committee's reputation for non-partisanship. Applicants are advised that partisan political activity may negatively impact their suitability for hire on Committee staff. In particular, if an applicant has worked as an employee on a political campaign, or as an employee on the staff of a House or Senate committee or personal office, this record of partisan employment may negatively impact the applicant's candidacy. In evaluating how an applicant's partisan employment history impacts the Committee's ability to serve the Senate community in a non-partisan manner, the Committee will consider various factors, including how recently the applicant worked in the partisan office, the applicant's position in that office, and the applicant's job duties in that office.
