Description:

About the role:
We're looking for a strategic and business-minded Product Counsel to join our Mobility Legal Team supporting Uber's core rides business. As Product Counsel, you will support the operations and product teams responsible for the technology that powers Uber's global rides business. This is a rare opportunity for an attorney to join an innovative and exciting tech company, and to work alongside business clients by delivering practical advice from the early stages of product development, through launch, and beyond!

What You'll Do:
  • Serve as a front-line attorney advising Uber's dynamic product managers, engineers, designers, analysts, and operations specialists who develop, launch, and constantly improve the technology that powers millions of trips everyday. This role will focus on supporting Uber's product and operations teams which design and operationalize the Rider experience for Uber's core rides products (e.g., UberX).
  • Identify and develop risk mitigations to resolve wide-ranging legal issues, including consumer protection, privacy, data security, litigation risk, intellectual property, regulatory, licensing, and antitrust, working directly with business clients to provide on-the-ground support.
  • Manage global legal reviews of products, features, and initiatives – in coordination with regional legal teams – to assess legal compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Collaborate with internal specialized legal teams (e.g., Litigation, Marketing, Employment, Privacy, IP, and Safety) to provide comprehensive advice, and solve legal problems quickly for the teams you support.
  • Draft terms and conditions, legal disclaimers, and other policies governing the use of Uber products and services.
  • Create and implement policies and practices to ensure consistent implementation of legal guidance and alignment on risks.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum of five (5) years of legal experience in private practice and/or in-house experience.
  • J.D. and license to practice law in at least one U.S. state.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience analyzing and advising on a wide range of legal issues related to technology platforms and/or consumer protection – especially consumer protection issues (e.g., FTC or State AG UDAP enforcement)
  • Experience managing global, complex legal reviews, involving coordination with cross-functional business and legal stakeholders.
  • Experience with issue spotting on new proposals, and the ability to think creatively and strategically to mitigate risks while pursuing business objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and highly collaborative with both business leaders and legal groups, with a proven ability to build relationships, gain credibility and trust, and partner across functions to build consensus.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with an ability to distill complex legal issues into actionable guidance for non-legal audiences.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Bring an ownership mindset and be a self-starter for the projects you manage.
  • Confidence and flexibility to operate in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment.
  • Curiosity, along with the ability to spot issues, get to the heart of a matter, and articulate plans to address them.
  • Passionate about your work and a desire to have a big impact.
  • Embody the highest standards of integrity, ethics, and accountability.
  • Enthusiastic about Uber!
