The Role:
The Product Counsel role works with the Risk Department and Underwriting teams to draft all policy wordings and related documents for all lines of business written by A Business Insurance Company, which includes Professional Liability, General Liability, Management Liability, Crime, Cyber, Media, Entertainment, Terrorism, and BOP. The Product Counsel team has primary responsibility for all product forms and associated documents. What You'll Be Doing:

Work both independently and with the Product Counsel team to collaborate with underwriters and draft clear and accurate new and amended insurance policy wordings, forms, endorsements, applications, and related documents
Advise underwriters and Practice Leaders with risk analysis by offering coverage and wordings analysis and other legal related advice
Stay up-to-date on current and emerging underwriting risk and coverage trends, and present on these topics periodically, as warranted, to underwriters and other pertinent US staff personnel.
Work with stakeholders to embrace "Plain English" wordings that are easy for customers and brokers to understand, without detracting from their legal precedence, meaning, or significance
Liaise with State Filings team to incorporate filings' impacts on policy wordings, but also to stay abreast of competitor filings from a product innovation standpoint
Liaise with Marketing team to review marketing materials that describe A Business Insurance Company products and coverages
Regularly engage with Claims teams to solicit feedback on policy wording and advise of new forms and coverages
Provide product-related regulatory and compliance support, as needed

The team:
This position is an integral role in the Risk Department, reporting directly to the VP, Head of Product Development. The Risk Department is highly collaborative, encompassing Product, State Filings, Regulatory, Corporate, and Compliance. The Product Counsel team sits at the very core of A Business Insurance Company: we create and facilitate use of all products sold by the US, and this role is crucial to the ambitious goals of this fast growing Business Unit.

Requirements:

Juris doctor required. Authorized and in good standing to practice law in any U.S. state.
3 to 5 years as an attorney with insurance law experience; claims experience is a plus
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
Excellent time management and prioritization skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including substantial legal drafting experience
Entrepreneurial and commercially-minded; thinks like a businessperson
Confident, proactive, and energetic professional who is also courageous, creative, and flexible
Strong ability to establish rapport and build relationships with internal clients (predominantly underwriters and Underwriting Management)

Preferred:

Background in the US commercial casualty and specialty markets
Insurance policy drafting experience
Insurance policy coverage analysis experience
Knowledge of admitted and surplus lines commercial products, including commercial, professional liability, and specialty insurance
