Job Duties and Responsibilities:
To add to our team of talented people, we are currently seeking a Privacy Counsel with a passion for privacy and experience advising on various US privacy laws and regulations. This position will provide critical legal support across our DISH, Sling TV, and Boost Mobile brands. This is a great opportunity for a motivated, collaborative attorney to help build and expand the EchoStar privacy functions, and advise business leaders and other legal team members on privacy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Advise on state and federal privacy laws including the Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and comprehensive state privacy laws affecting both media and telecommunications
  • Evaluate privacy implications for advertising initiatives, AdTech usage, and new product features for DISH, Sling, and Boost Mobile consumer data
  • Conduct Data Privacy Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and assist in driving remediation plans for privacy issues identified during risk assessments
  • Review and negotiate complex contracts, data processing agreements (DPAs), and data-sharing terms
  • Draft and maintain privacy policies, internal guidance, and specialized privacy training
  • Prepare periodic reports on privacy compliance and program maturity

Skills, Experience and Requirements:
Education and Experience:
  • J.D. degree with strong academic credentials from an accredited law school
  • 3+ years of experience at a major law firm or corporation advising on compliance with privacy laws, regulations and policies

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Experience drafting and negotiating complex advertising contracts and data processing agreements
  • CIPP preferred
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present complex legal concepts to business leaders and audiences
  • Admission to the Colorado Bar, or the ability to become admitted promptly under Rule 222 of the Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure (Single-Client Counsel)
