The General Counsel will oversee all legal functions related to our multifamily real estate operations, ensuring compliance with industry regulations while minimizing risk. This role requires a proactive leader who can navigate complex legal issues, advise on real estate transactions, and collaborate with various departments to drive the company's strategic initiatives.

Job Duties:
  • Legal Strategy: Develop and implement legal strategies that align with the company's multifamily real estate objectives.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and industry standards related to real estate development, leasing, and property management.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate legal risks associated with property acquisitions, financing, and operations.
  • Transaction Support: Provide legal support for real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, leases, and financing agreements.
  • Litigation Management: Oversee any litigation or disputes involving the company, collaborating with outside counsel as needed.
  • Corporate Governance: Manage corporate governance matters, including board meetings, minutes, and compliance documentation.
  • Policy Development: Create and implement policies and procedures to ensure legal and regulatory compliance within the organization.
  • Training: Conduct training sessions for employees on legal matters relevant to multifamily real estate, including fair housing laws and lease agreements.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with internal teams, including development, finance, and property management, to promote legal and ethical business practices.

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
  • 10+ years of experience as in-house counsel or in a law firm, with a focus on real estate law, particularly in the multifamily sector
  • Strong understanding of real estate transactions, property management, leasing, and compliance
  • Proven ability to manage complex legal issues and provide strategic legal advice
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to working with diverse teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Must provide list of 2-3 professional references
