Boyd Law is expanding its Family Law practice in Los Angeles and is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney with approximately 3–7 years of practice experience.We want an attorney who understands California family law, enjoys litigation and case strategy, is comfortable working directly with clients and is ready to take meaningful responsibility for assigned cases.
This position offers an unusual opportunity for the right attorney: the resources and infrastructure of a multi-office California law firm combined with the ability to play an important role in the continued growth of our Southern California practice.
The Role:
The attorney will manage and participate in family-law matters involving dissolution, child custody and visitation, child and spousal support, property characterization and division, separate and community property issues, domestic violence proceedings, post-judgment matters, discovery disputes, settlement negotiations, evidentiary hearings and trials.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing case strategy and recommending next steps
- Independently managing assigned family-law matters
- Drafting and arguing Requests for Order
- Preparing pleadings, declarations, briefs and settlement documents
- Conducting and responding to discovery
- Preparing for depositions, mediation, settlement conferences and trial
- Appearing in Los Angeles and surrounding Superior Courts as required
- Analyzing financial documents and evidence
- Preparing clients and witnesses
- Negotiating with opposing counsel
- Identifying evidentiary and legal issues before they become emergencies
- Maintaining control of deadlines and case calendars
- Communicating consistently and professionally with clients
- Supervising and effectively utilizing paralegal support
- Maintaining timely and accurate billing and case-management records
Qualifications:
Candidates should have an active California Bar license in good standing, approximately 3–7 years of attorney experience, substantive California family-law experience, courtroom experience, strong written advocacy skills and the ability to independently analyze a case and recommend strategy.
We are particularly interested in attorneys who have handled their own RFOs, contested custody or support proceedings, complex property matters, depositions, settlement conferences or trial preparation.
