Smith Anderson combines sophisticated legal capabilities with a collaborative culture that values long‑term relationships, professional growth, and strategic thinking.Smith Anderson is seeking an associate with three to five years of experience to join its Commercial Real Estate Finance practice. The primary focus of the position is representing banks and other lenders in commercial real estate financing transactions, including acquisition, development, and construction financing. The position offers an excellent opportunity for an attorney who has developed a strong foundation in lender-side finance to deepen that experience while also expanding into other areas of commercial real estate, including leasing and other transactional real estate matters. Our Finance attorneys represent banks and other lenders in commercial real estate financing transactions involving a variety of assets and financing structures. Associates take meaningful responsibility for drafting and negotiating loan and security documentation, conducting and managing real estate and collateral due diligence, identifying issues affecting collateral and closing, and helping move transactions efficiently from inception through closing and post-closing. Because commercial real estate finance frequently requires an understanding of the underlying real estate asset and the broader secured transaction, associates also work with title commitments and policies, surveys, leases, organizational and authority documents, lien searches, insurance, payoff and release documentation, and other property-level and collateral diligence. The firm's current search specifically identifies experience reviewing title, surveys, leases and other aspects of CRE transaction diligence as an important part of the desired lender-side background.
The ideal candidate will have three to five years' experience representing lenders in commercial real estate and other secured financing transactions, including acquisition, development, and construction financing. In particular, we prefer candidates with experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial real estate lending and security documentation, as well as reviewing title, surveys, leases and other aspects of commercial real estate and collateral transaction due diligence and managing transactions through closing and post-closing.
Additionally, the candidate should exhibit the following skills and characteristics:
- Practical, solution‑oriented, and collaborative practice style
