Kemeny, Ramp & Renaud, LLC is seeking a mid- to senior-level associate attorney to join the firm's growing Trusts & Estates / Probate Litigation practice in East Brunswick, New Jersey.The ideal candidate will be an experienced attorney who is prepared to assume substantial responsibility for sophisticated matters involving estates, trusts, fiduciaries, beneficiaries, guardianships, and related Chancery disputes. The position is litigation-focused, while also providing opportunities to handle estate and trust administration, estate planning, and related client counseling.
We are particularly interested in candidates with strong litigation skills. Experience in business litigation, commercial litigation, or other sophisticated civil litigation is a significant plus, and attorneys with substantial litigation experience outside the probate field who are interested in developing a probate and fiduciary litigation practice are encouraged to apply.
The attorney hired for this position will have the opportunity to handle matters involving:
- Will contests and probate disputes;
- Trust and estate litigation;
- Fiduciary-duty and beneficiary disputes;
- Contested accountings and other fiduciary proceedings;
- Guardianship proceedings;
- General equity and Chancery matters;
- Estate and trust administration;
- Estate planning and related client counseling; and
- Depending on experience and interest, business, commercial, and other civil litigation.
We are particularly interested in attorneys who can independently manage a substantial portion of their matters while exercising sound judgment about when strategic consultation with other attorneys is appropriate. The successful candidate should be interested not merely in working on assignments, but in assuming increasing responsibility for matters, client relationships, and the development of a long-term practice.
Prior experience involving probate, estates, trusts, guardianships, or Chancery practice is strongly preferred but is not required for an otherwise highly qualified litigator. Experience with estate administration or estate planning is also valuable and provides an opportunity to develop a broader Trusts & Estates practice within the firm.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have approximately five or more years of legal experience, although exceptional candidates with somewhat less experience will be considered.
The successful candidate must be admitted to practice in New Jersey and should possess excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Strong professional judgment, careful attention to detail, responsiveness to clients, and the ability to work collaboratively with attorneys and staff are important.
Experience with depositions, substantive motion practice, court appearances, evidentiary hearings, mediation, or trial preparation is particularly valuable.
Compensation:
The anticipated base salary range is $150,000–$180,000, commensurate with the candidate's experience, qualifications, litigation skills, writing ability, and ability to independently manage sophisticated matters.
The firm's annual attorney production expectation is approximately 1,800 client-service hours.
In addition to base salary, the firm offers opportunities for performance- and production-based compensation, as well as 25% origination compensation on qualifying legal fees generated from business originated by the attorney.
The compensation structure is intended to reward attorneys not only for productivity, but also for excellent legal work, increasing independence, client service, and contributions to the growth of the firm.
