Lead the Legal Team at a Firm That Puts Families First

For more than 20 years, Jarvis Law Office, P.C. has helped Ohio and West Virginia families protect what matters most through estate planning, elder law, and long-term care planning. We are looking for an experienced, people-focused Managing Attorney to lead our legal team, strengthen our client experience, and help shape the future of the firm.

In this leadership role, you will oversee the day-to-day management of our legal department, including our Attorneys, Paralegals, and Public Benefits (Medicaid) Paralegals. You will also meet with clients to design thoughtful plans for both pre-planning and crisis cases, and you will serve as the firm's champion for quality, risk management, and professional ethics.

You will report to our Founding Attorney on legal matters and to our Chief Executive Officer on non-legal matters, with a broad degree of discretion over the cases assigned to you.

What you will do:
Leadership & Management (about 80% of your time)
  • Lead by example and support the vision and mission of Jarvis Law Office.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop associate attorneys and legal support staff, building a strong and motivated team.
  • Hold monthly 1:1 check-ins and lead annual performance evaluations for direct reports.
  • Monitor the production pipeline and use data to coach attorneys, manage workflow, and keep work on schedule.
  • Identify training needs and lead training for attorneys and legal team members.
  • Manage the Legal Department budget in partnership with the executive leadership team.
  • Assist with hiring associate attorneys and paralegals.
  • Review legal recommendations, policies, procedures, and client feedback to reduce firm liability and improve client satisfaction.
  • Set standards and implement best-practice systems for retainer agreements, co-counsel agreements, billing rates, and ethics compliance.
  • Partner with the Operations Manager to keep the firm current on continuing education and changes in the law.
  • Build the firm's community presence by creating and presenting client workshops, webinars, seminars, and media events.

Client Service (about 20% of your time)
  • Facilitate design meetings with prospective clients and recommend plans aligned with their goals.
  • Prepare Attorney-Client Engagement Agreements and secure signatures before work begins.
  • Outline plan designs for the drafting attorney or paralegal to follow.
  • Review estate planning documents before signing, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, and HIPAA authorizations, as well as estate administration and long-term care planning documents.
  • Meet with clients, family members, and trustees at signing appointments to review final documents and answer questions.
  • Review client files before closing to confirm all recommendations and tasks are complete and well documented.
  • Keep client notes and files current in our practice management system (ActionStep).
  • Stay current on estate planning, tax, estate administration, VA Benefits, Medicaid, and long-term care planning law.
  • Write articles for newsletters and the firm website as needed.

What you bring:
  • An active Ohio / West Virginia law license in good standing.
  • At least 5 years of management or supervisory experience.
  • At least 5 years of legal sales or client development experience, with a strong track record of converting consultations into clients.
  • At least 2 years of Elder Law experience; estate planning, estate administration, and Medicaid planning experience strongly preferred.
  • A coaching mindset and the ability to give clear, timely, and constructive feedback.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with comfort speaking to clients, families, and community groups.
  • A strong commitment to quality, accuracy, and professional ethics.
  • Experience with legal practice management software (ActionStep a plus).
