Description:

MAS LAW is looking for a litigation associate with at least two years of experience who wants to do real, substantive legal work.

We need someone who can take a difficult legal issue, dig into the facts and the law, figure it out, and turn that work into a strong motion, brief, or strategy. This position is heavy on research and writing, along with the discovery, depositions, hearings, and day-to-day work that actually moves a case forward. We want a lawyer willing to do the heavy lifting who takes pride in producing good work.

What you will be doing:
You will work directly with experienced litigators on active civil cases in state and federal court:
  • Researching and analyzing complex legal issues;
  • Drafting pleadings, briefs, memoranda, and dispositive and pretrial motions;
  • Preparing and responding to written discovery, and handling discovery disputes;
  • Reviewing and analyzing documents, records, testimony, and other evidence;
  • Preparing deposition outlines and hearing materials, and assisting at both; and
  • Developing case strategy and preparing cases for trial.

This is a hands-on position. We want an attorney comfortable getting into the details and taking an assignment from beginning to end — not someone looking to manage a docket and pass the substantive work down.

What we are looking for:
  • A Texas law license in good standing;
  • At least 2 years of legal experience, preferably in civil litigation;
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills;
  • Strong legal writing, with experience drafting motions, briefs, pleadings, and discovery;
  • The judgment to work through an assignment independently — and to know when to ask the right questions;
  • Serious attention to detail; and
  • The ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines without letting the quality of the work suffer.
  • We would rather hire a smart, hardworking lawyer who can research, analyze, and write exceptionally well than someone with a longer résumé who cannot. Courtroom skills can be developed. The ability and willingness to sit down, understand a complicated problem, and produce excellent legal work is much harder to teach.
