The St. Petersburg, Florida office of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick LLP has an opportunity for an associate to join its Litigation & Disputes service line. Ideal candidates will have up to six years of litigation experience. The successful candidate will have a strong academic record, and excellent analytical, research, and legal writing skills.

We are looking for candidates who have a passion for litigation and who take a proactive approach and ownership of their work. Candidates must have a strong commitment to client service and want to develop and grow their litigation skills by working alongside exceptional attorneys.
Government attorneys, judicial clerks, and new law school graduates who have taken the 2026 Florida Bar Exam are encouraged to apply.

Where You'll Work
This is an in-person position in the St. Petersburg, Florida, office with occasional flexibility to work remotely (1-2 days per week).

What You'll Do:
  • Manage and support a diverse commercial litigation caseload
  • Research complex legal issues and draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and legal memoranda
  • Participate in depositions, hearings, mediations, and trial preparation
  • Work closely with senior attorneys on case strategy and litigation management
  • Communicate directly with clients, opposing counsel, and courts
  • Analyze complex legal and factual issues and develop litigation strategies
  • Manage caseload efficiently while meeting litigation deadlines and billable requirements

What We're Looking For:
  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the Florida Bar (or awaiting July FL Bar exam results)
  • Between 1-6 years of litigation experience; 2026 law school graduates who have taken the 2026 Florida Bar exam will also be considered
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills including a strong aptitude for managing and prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines
  • Comfortable handling depositions and court appearances commensurate with experience
  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of local, state and federal rules of procedure
  • Ability to work with a variety of attorneys and staff, and maintain a high degree of confidentiality

Physical Requirements:
  • Sitting frequently, approximately six out of eight hours per day. Sitting position static for up to one-half hour at a time.
  • Standing or walking frequently, up to six hours per day.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds occasionally, up to one hour per day.
  • Bending and stooping occasionally, up to one-half hour per day.
