Internship Position Description:
A Massachusetts State Agency mission is to create a clean, affordable, equitable and resilient energy future for all residents, including low-income and Environmental Justice populations, businesses, communities, and institutions in the Commonwealth. To meet these objectives, A Massachusetts State Agency develops and implements policies and programs to ensure the adequacy, security, diversity, and cost-effectiveness of the Commonwealth's energy supply. A Massachusetts State Agency is committed to working to promote energy programs and policies that are developed and implemented to ensure environmental justice among all the Commonwealth's citizens, communities, businesses, and institutions.

A Massachusetts State Agency is seeking a legal intern for the summer of 2023 to gain practical experience and to assist in providing legal services and support to A Massachusetts State Agency staff on various energy matters including administrative proceedings before the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU) as well as other matters involving the energy industry in the Commonwealth. The intern may work on a variety of energy policy and regulatory matters concerning energy efficiency, solar, renewable and alternative energy, Massachusetts Green Communities, alternative transportation and the impacts these policies may have on all energy consumers, including Environmental Justice, low-income, and vulnerable populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Interest in Gaining Legal Experience in Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Law.
Independent Judgment in Decision-Making and Ability to Draft and Support Legal Analysis.
Willingness to Exercise Initiative.

Strong Organizational Skills, Writing Skills, and The Ability to Communicate Clearly and Effectively in Oral and Written Form.
Strong Interpersonal Skills and The Ability to Maintain Effective Working Relationships with Internal Stakeholders.

Ability to Read and Comprehend Statutes and Regulations.

Demonstrated Knowledge and Understanding of Statutory, Regulatory, or Similar Legal Frameworks.

Hours per Week:

Full Time – 37.5 Hours per Week.
This Position Is Partially Remote with A Hybrid Schedule of Going Into the Office in Boston a Minimum of One Day per Week.

Other Relevant Information:

Contracted Student Internship Compensation Will Be up To $23/hour for College Undergraduate Students and Up to $35/hour for Graduate Students.
Internship Duration June – August 16
