The Opportunity:
We are currently seeking an Legal Counsel to join Arup's in-house legal team. This position will provide legal counsel and general corporate support to the east geography in the Americas Region.
Is the role right for you?
Key deliverables in this role:
- Negotiating contracts relating to regional Arup business including professional service agreements, teaming agreements, joint venture agreements, subconsultant agreements, vendor agreements, confidentiality agreements, and licensing agreements
- Advising on bid documentation and contributing to executive committee to assist go/no go decision
- Assist with insurance related issues including annual renewals, quarterly claim updates, and project policies
- Assist with corporate matters, including leases, powers of attorney, registration and licensing issues
- Advise on new legislative and regulatory requirements and recommend changes to Arup global policies and administration as appropriate
- Identifying and managing potential legal risks
- Assistance with dispute resolution
- Supporting senior management in business and legal development
- Developing and delivering legal training to all-level engineers in various groups and offices
- Work collaboratively within a mutually supportive team environment with a focus on team success
- Liaising with and management of outside counsel
- Representing Arup externally while promoting the philosophy of the firm
Requirements – Key qualities we are looking for in candidates include:
- JD and admission to New York Bar or equivalent from other jurisdictions including UK that can waive into NY State Bar with the ability to get to NY
- 5+ years' experience in the field of contract law ideally gained within an in-house team
- Experience in construction / engineering industry preferred
- Strong analytic, communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines is essential
- Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal)
- Able to demonstrate strong commercial awareness
- Highly motivated, proactive and willing to take on new challenges
- Ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment
