An Education Management Company is seeking a talented and experienced attorney to join our North American legal team. As Legal Counsel, you will report to the General Counsel and provide legal support across a wide range of matters for An Education Management Company's educational and leisure travel, cultural exchange, academic, and language learning companies.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated team player with excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills. You will need to provide risk-weighted and practical legal advice within a fast-moving setting across a broad range of responsibilities and disciplines. The primary responsibilities of the role will involve advising on and mitigating legal risk, drafting and reviewing commercial and consumer contracts, and implementing and supporting compliance initiatives. This role requires a lawyer who enjoys developing their personal network across multiple businesses and functions and who can balance both complex and long-term legal projects along with responding with sound business judgment to novel issues in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities/Duties:
  • Research and advise stakeholders on a diverse complement of legal risks and business opportunities.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial and consumer contracts, including master service agreements, real estate contracts (i.e., leases; construction contracts; purchase and sale agreements), partnership and vendor agreements, and non-disclosure agreements.
  • Identify and proactively address legal and compliance issues.
  • Support and/or lead trainings on legal risks and compliance.
  • Provide labor and employment advice to central services, managers, and in support of business initiatives.
  • Coordinate with and manage outside counsel on specialized areas of legal advice including intellectual property, real estate, and privacy.
  • Support the effective coordination and management of discovery in complex commercial, personal injury, and employment litigation.

Qualifications:
  • 5 years of legal experience.
  • Juris Doctor and membership in good standing in at least one state bar is required.
  • A mix of corporate law firm and in-house experience is a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, specifically the ability to synthesize challenging legal issues for a business-focused audience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with stakeholders representing all levels of the business.
