The Opportunity:
This position will advise TC Energy's U.S. Natural Gas Pipelines business concerning environmental and pipeline safety legal matters. The scope of work encompasses high-stakes, cutting-edge legal issues related to the development of new pipeline infrastructure, as well as the operation of the Company's existing pipeline systems. The position will sit within the Environmental & Pipeline Safety Law team in the U.S. Natural Gas Pipelines Law department.

What You'll Do:
  • Advise business teams concerning complex, technical, and sensitive issues related to environmental, pipeline safety, and other regulatory compliance matters (including CERCLA, air, water, waste, and environmental remediation)
  • Advise business teams on matters related to growth projects at all stages of the project life cycle (including preparation and drafting of applications, pleadings, and other related filings, as well as federal, state, and local permitting issues)
  • Handle disputes involving environmental claims, including by analyzing, drafting and negotiating pleadings and other critical documentation, and potentially representing the company in adjudicatory proceedings
  • Participate in industry trade groups and association committees to contribute thought leadership and advocacy on legislative and regulatory issues that impact TC Energy
  • Manage matters and supervise external legal counsel within approved budget limits
  • Provide legal support for the natural gas pipeline emergency response program

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university
  • Juris Doctorate from ABA-accredited law school
  • Active license to practice law in the U.S.
  • Minimum four years of relevant legal experience*
  • Ability to analyze complex matters in a proactive manner, proposing creative and practical solutions
  • Excellent communication and advocacy skills (oral and written)
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Ability to coordinate with other legal and business functions

Preferred Qualifications:
  • General understanding of the natural gas pipeline business
  • Experience with federal and state permitting of pipelines and other energy infrastructure
  • Significant experience with environmental and other regulatory matters related to natural gas pipeline infrastructure, including proceedings before the US Environmental Protection Agency and/or other federal and state regulatory agencies and tribunals
