JaruLaw is looking for a motivated legal professional to join our growing personal injury team. We represent injured clients throughout California and Arizona, and this position is designed for someone who is early in their legal career or looking to transition from insurance defense into plaintiff-side practice.We're looking for candidates who fall into one of the following categories:
- A recent law school graduate or personal injury legal associate awaiting California Bar Exam results
- A legal associate or attorney with insurance defense experience who is interested in transitioning to plaintiff-side practice
- A newly admitted California attorney looking to begin their career in personal injury
- Candidates awaiting bar results will begin in a legal associate capacity and may transition into an Associate Attorney role upon admission to the California Bar.
This is an opportunity to work closely with experienced personal injury attorneys, gain meaningful hands-on exposure to case strategy and litigation, and develop into a well-rounded plaintiff-side attorney.
What You'll Do:
Responsibilities will vary based on experience and bar status and may include:
- Review case files, medical records, liability evidence, damages, and insurance coverage
- Conduct legal research and provide analysis on liability, damages, procedural issues, and case strategy
- Draft correspondence, pleadings, discovery, motions, and other legal documents
- Assist with written discovery and discovery responses
- Help prepare clients and attorneys for depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trial
- Participate in case strategy discussions and evaluate cases for settlement or litigation
- Assist with settlement negotiations and communications with insurance carriers and opposing counsel, as permitted based on bar status
- Identify and evaluate appropriate experts based on the facts and needs of each case and assist with expert retention and coordination
- Assist with expert discovery and deposition preparation
- Track litigation deadlines, statutes of limitation, discovery deadlines, and other critical dates
- Communicate with clients and help ensure they remain informed throughout the life of their case
- Work closely with case managers, paralegals, and attorneys to keep cases moving efficiently
- Take on greater responsibility for case strategy, negotiations, and litigation following California Bar admission
What We're Looking For:
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- California Bar admission or recently sat for the California Bar Exam and awaiting results. Arizona Bar admission is a plus
- 2+ years of personal injury experience on the plaintiff or defense side
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Bilingual Spanish is a plus
