- Oversee and manage the daily operations of their designated team of Staff Counsel.
- Facilitate a work environment that fosters and supports ethical decision-making and actions by motivating, promoting, and modeling ethical behavior, as well as executing job responsibilities in accordance with Slide's Core Values and policies.
- Monitor workloads and ensure deadlines are met.
- Create and implement legal policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Establish legal team metrics, analyze, and report performance results to the Executive Staff Counsel.
- Train legal staff in compliance with Slide's guidelines.
- Oversee legal staff members' day-to-day activities and ongoing projects.
- Continuously evaluate, coordinate, and prioritize critical and time sensitive work items for the Legal Department.
- Provide leadership to team members and regularly conduct effective and timely structured Performance Feedback sessions.
- Collaborate with Executive Staff Counsel to proactively identify process improvement opportunities and implement effective solutions.
- Identify legal risks and propose mitigation strategies.
- Conduct legal research to stay informed about relevant legal developments.
- Evaluate cost-saving measures without compromising legal quality.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
What You Have:
Education, Experience, and Licensing:
- JD degree from an ABA-approved program required.
- Licensed by the Florida Bar and a member in good standing.
- 7+ years of experience practicing in Florida.
- 5+ years of experience specializing in first-party property defense required.
- 1+ years of leadership experience including setting of goals and managing performance.
- First party property jury trial experience through to verdict as first chair.
Qualifications/Skills and Competencies:
- Extensive knowledge of case law governing Florida insurance claims.
- A thorough understanding of the Florida Rules of Civil Procedure, Florida Evidence Code, Florida Rules of Judicial Administration, and specifically Chapter 624 and Chapter 627 of the Florida Insurance Code.
- A thorough understanding of the Florida Administrative Code.
- A thorough understanding of the Rules Regulating the Florida Bar, specifically the Rules of Professional Conduct.
- Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills.
- Highly organized with the ability to effectively and efficiently manage operations.
- Ability to analyze legal issues and coach others through doing the same.
- Strong research and negotiation skills.
- Strong communication skills; ability to clearly and succinctly articulate position.
- Strong and persuasive legal writing skills and oral advocacy skills.
- Personal integrity and adherence to a high degree of professionalism and ethical competency.
- Proficient in MSO/365 applications such as Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
