Job Description:
Law student volunteers work closely with Counsels to the Associate Attorney General on assignments mirroring the Office's litigation work and component management. Interns may:
  • Conduct comprehensive legal and factual research and analysis
  • Draft briefs, court filings, internal memoranda, and letters
  • Collaborate closely with attorneys on assignments covering the components overseen by OASG
  • Assist in developing litigation strategies in trial and appellate courts
  • Attend and participate in Department meetings and calls, as appropriate

By the end of the internship, interns will have broad exposure to the legal practice at the Department and other government agencies. Interns must work in person at the Washington, D.C. office; no telework or remote work options are available.

Qualifications:
Applicant must demonstrate the following:
  • U.S. citizenship or national status;
  • Current enrollment in a Juris Doctor (J.D.) program (rising second-year, or rising third-year by the start of the internship);
  • Successful completion of a background investigation; and
  • Maintain J.D. program enrollment status throughout the duration of service.

Salary:
This internship will be on an unpaid, volunteer basis.

Travel:
Not required.
