Job Description:
Internships at OIL are highly sought after because of the responsibility and experience they offer. Under the guidance of attorney-mentors, interns research and write briefs for submission to the courts of appeals. They also practice their oral argument skills by mooting one of their cases before a panel of experienced attorneys. In addition, they are given the opportunity to attend various trainings, tours, and networking events. Finally, they regularly attend “first cuts” meetings, where OIL's leaders formulate recommendations about whether to seek further review in cases decided adversely to the government. The fall 2024 internship program is expected to begin during the week of August 26, 2024. We anticipate operating the internship in-person, but may also offer remote internships for those interested.

Further details about the internship are provided below. Please contact Rachel Berman-Vaporis or Jeffrey Hartman with any questions at: oil-app.internprogram@usdoj.gov.

Qualifications:
Applicants must have completed one year of law school by the start date of the internship, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, be a U.S. citizen, and be able to pass a background check. Applicants who demonstrate strong legal research and writing skills and/or an interest in immigration law are preferred. Applicants must commit to working for at least 10 weeks for a minimum of 20 hours per week.
