A Non-Profit Organization seeks a Law Clerk to directly assist the Market Regulation department craft the rules that regulate the municipal securities market, develop interpretive guidance, compliance and educational resources to assist regulated entities, all with the goal of protecting investors and facilitating a fair and efficient municipal securities market. This position will work on a range of projects related to research, legislative developments, preparing memoranda, enforcement action summaries, and participating in calls and meetings with regulators.

Qualified applicants must be a first, rising second or third-year law student or LLM candidate and have a demonstrated interest in securities law and financial/regulatory compliance. They must be able to commit to two to three days on-site at the Washington, DC office for the full eight-week hybrid internship program from June 3 – July 26, 2024 with the potential to be extended until September. This position will work 40 hours per week through July and have the ability to continue their work with the MSRB in a part-time externship capacity through September (remote or on-site). Compensation for this position will be $40.00 per hour.

Requirements:
General Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research on securities law and the municipal securities market.
  • Draft clear and effective memoranda and summaries.
  • Edit documents, check citations and provide support as needed.
  • Organize and synthesize background materials for attorneys regarding ongoing and special projects.
  • Prepare notes from meetings with other regulators, regulated entities, trade associations and other stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Qualifications:
Must be a rising 2L or 3L or LLM candidate student currently enrolled at an accredited law school. We seek candidates who are well-rounded, intellectually curious, and committed to excellence and continued growth. This position requires strong research and legal writing skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, attention to detail and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Must demonstrate sound judgment in handling sensitive or confidential information and work independently to prioritize and meet project deliverables. Strong preference for candidates who have completed courses in Securities Law, Business Law, or Corporations. We encourage students with a natural desire to learn new things to apply.
