Description:

We are a growing, tech-enabled real estate law firm seeking a Landlord/Tenant and Real Estate Litigation Attorney to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated litigator who thrives in a goal-driven, fast-paced, and client-focused environment.

As the lead attorney on a high volume of landlord-tenant and real estate litigation matters, you will be responsible for independently handling cases from start to finish, appearing in court throughout Northern New Jersey, and meeting clear revenue, hourly, and client satisfaction targets.

You will be the primary point of contact for clients on your matters—this means being comfortable explaining fee structures, discussing retainers, and guiding clients through expectations at every stage of the case. Besides a strong base salary, attorneys receive origination credit both for matters they directly handle and for referrals that generate work for other attorneys in the firm. Because our litigation clients are often investors, property owners, or individuals with broad legal needs, this position provides a natural opportunity to generate and refer transactional and estate planning matters. You join a team already handling 250+ closings/transactions yearly.

Compensation is structured to reward performance—in addition to a competitive base salary, attorneys earn fixed-percentage credits for originated clients and for earned fees exceeding benchmarks. Our firm also believes in leveraging automation, delegation, and flat fee models where possible to enhance efficiency and improve overall profitability. Success in this role will be measured by achieving revenue goals, converting paid consults into retained clients, and maintaining strong client satisfaction scores.

If you are self-managing, results-oriented, comfortable being the direct voice to clients about fees and case strategy, and eager to grow with a forward-thinking real estate law firm, this position offers both autonomy and the chance to directly impact your professional and financial success.

Duties and Responsibilities.
  • Lead Attorney: Serve as lead attorney on a high volume of landlord-tenant and real estate litigation matters, including evictions, ejectments, partitions, quiet title, and related disputes. Independently manage all aspects of cases from intake through resolution—consultations, drafting pleadings, discovery, negotiations, hearings, and ongoing client communication.
  • Client Contact and Fee Discussions: Act as the primary point of contact for clients on assigned matters. Confidently explain fee structures, present retainer agreements, and set clear expectations about the legal process and case strategy.

  • Client Development and Referrals: Convert paid consultations into retained clients by providing clear, credible legal advice and effective presentation of retainer terms. Identify opportunities to cross-sell the firm's other practice areas—including real estate transactions, leasing, and estate planning—and refer matters that generate origination credit, whether handled personally or by other attorneys in the firm.
  • Performance and Time Management: Consistently meet revenue, hourly, and client satisfaction targets while maintaining approximately 30–35 hours of client-facing work per week and 5–6 hours of non-client work, for a total of ~2,000 productive hours annually.

  • Judgment and Independence: Strong ability to operate autonomously, exercise sound legal judgment, and drive matters forward without close supervision.
  • Client-Facing Communication: Must be very comfortable serving as the direct point of contact for clients, including discussing fee structures, presenting retainer terms, and explaining the firm's service models.
