Description:
Experience: 3 to 5 years in public and private sector labor and employment mattersQualifications:
- Experience with counseling public, private, union, and/or non-union clients in matters involving a wide range of labor and employment laws.
- Understanding of federal and state labor and employment laws, wage and hour law, workers compensation and disability law, employee benefits law, and criminal law.
- Ability to manage multiple matters, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Represent public and private sector employers in all aspects of labor and employment law, including employment counseling and compliance, workplace investigations and discipline matters, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage-and-hour claims.
- Conduct internal investigations into employee complaints, misconduct and regulatory compliance issues.
- Draft, review and update employment-related documents, such as handbooks, policies, employment agreements, severance agreements, and non-compete/non-solicitation agreements.
- Handle employment litigation matters involving insurance coverage, including defending claims under Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) and other policies, and coordinate with insurance carriers, claims professionals and insured clients.
- Perform legal research on labor and employment laws, monitor legal developments and changes in labor and employment laws and communicate implications internally and externally.
- Supervise and mentor junior associates and business support professionals, as appropriate.
- Participate in client meetings and contribute to business development efforts, as appropriate.
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Strong academic credentials.
- Excellent technical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other practice areas to provide comprehensive solutions to clients.
Salary: $135,000 to $150,000
A competitive compensation and comprehensive benefit package, including medical, dental, vision, life, long term disability, flexible spending, 401(k), Paid Time Off, pension plan, and more. At this time, the good faith estimate of the annual salary range for this position, if the successful applicant is based in Buffalo, Albany, Rochester, or Saratoga Springs, is $135,000 to $150,000. This range is not applicable to other locations.
