Job Description:Summary: The Knowledge Management Lawyer (“KM Lawyer”) will be part of the Regulatory and Enforcement Global Practice Group focusing specifically on the Securities Enforcement and Regulatory Practice Area Team (“SER PAT”). The KM Lawyer will (1) provide support and assistance to the lawyers in the SER PAT to help produce efficient and effective work product and client solutions; (2) help the SER PAT as a whole to operate more efficiently, which will result in time and cost savings and provide additional value for clients; and (3) deliver to, and help implement within, the SER PAT firm-wide knowledge management initiatives.
The KM Lawyer will execute these activities by collaborating with the SER KM Partners to create best practices, to achieve consensus on standards of operational efficiency, and develop measures of success for the SER KM program, while promoting a culture of knowledge-sharing and practice innovation.
Duties and Responsibilities: Depending on how the needs of the practice evolve, the duties and responsibilities of the KM Lawyer may include, but not be limited to:
Strategy and Analysis
- Work closely with the KM Partners, PAT leadership and Regulatory and Enforcement Global Practice Group leadership to establish and track KM goals and objectives.
- Collaborate with SER PAT lawyers to assess current and relevant KM needs.
- Develop, define and implement procedures to meet those needs and establish a method for consistent review of the strategy.
- Communicate regularly with other KM Lawyers and Specialists at the firm to share best practices.
- Manage and continually improve the functionality of the SER collaboration site, which serves as a living repository of information to support the SER PAT's client work, and includes, among other things, exemplar forms, templates for policies and procedures, precedents, memos, research, business development materials, industry updates and client alerts.
- Work with SER lawyers to generate knowledge content used throughout the SER PAT and facilitate the sharing of knowledge and practice-related information in general.
- Using Foundation, the firm's experience management platform, manage the SER PAT's current matter profiling efforts, generate and review reports in Foundation to ensure that matters are profiled appropriately, and assist in Foundation training of new associates.
- Maintain and update procedures for generating, maintaining, updating, accessing and disseminating information (including forms and precedent) and other materials to ensure consistent advice and reflect the most up-to date changes in applicable, laws, regulations and best practices.
- Develop and implement consistent and effective means of communicating the availability and location of the SER PAT knowledge resources.
- Work with the KM Partners and members of the SER PAT to identify and execute on special projects that will address PAT pain points and enhance PAT efficiency.
- Develop and promote workflow improvements for common legal processes within the SER PAT.
- Assist in business development efforts for the SER PAT, including compiling, organizing, and making available client pitch materials, identifying relevant issues and developments for clients, and preparing contributions to client-facing publications (e.g., bulletins, newsletters, etc.).
- Constantly communicate with the SER PAT lawyers to establish legal project management processes to track information at all stages of a matter and conduct post-matter reviews of lessons learned in order to update knowledge content and to obtain information in determining what knowledge resources are most relevant.
- Monitor, inform, and update the SER PAT with regard to important legal and industry developments and trends through training, advisories, email updates and other processes.
- Identify legal or business trends and suggest innovative methods to deliver services to clients more effectively.
- Draft and collect thought leadership materials and presentations, including training materials, memos, alerts, practice notes, industry updates, and reports from attendance at CLEs and conferences.
- Work with Sidley's KM and Data & AI departments to evaluate, test and deploy innovative technology, including AI-based solutions.
- Develop and present training for the SER PAT on the firm's technology platforms including, but not limited to the SER collaboration site, tailoring the training to highlight aspects of the technology most relevant for the PAT in light of their unique needs.
- Identify possible gaps in substantive training relevant to the SER PAT, and coordinate with Learning and Development to develop, organize and deliver (individually or with others) training, which may include workshops and off-site training.
- Other duties as required by the practices.
Education and/or Experience:
Required:
- Juris Doctor from an ABA accredited law school
- A minimum of 4 years of experience as a securities lawyer
- Admitted to practice law in Washington, D.C. in good standing

Target Salary Range $250,000 - $300,000
