Greenberg Traurig is seeking a junior to mid-level Intellectual Property Associate (2–3 years of experience) to join our New Jersey office. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies at the intersection of software, artificial intelligence, and emerging industries, advising innovative clients ranging from startups to established global companies.

Position Summary:
The ideal candidate will have experience supporting the full lifecycle of patent matters, particularly in software and AI-related technologies, and will be comfortable working across a diverse set of industries, including healthcare, fintech, and advanced technologies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications, particularly in areas such as software, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data-driven technologies
  • Prepare and respond to Office Actions, and conduct examiner interviews to advance prosecution strategy
  • Perform prior art searches, patentability analyses, and freedom-to-operate (FTO) assessments
  • Assist in developing patent portfolio strategies aligned with client business objectives
  • Draft claim charts and support invalidity and non-infringement analyses
  • Collaborate directly with inventors, engineers, and in-house counsel to identify and protect innovations
  • Stay current on developments in software, AI, and emerging technologies impacting IP strategy

Qualifications:
  • 2–3 years of experience in patent prosecution within a law firm or corporate legal environment
  • Technical background in computer science, software engineering, artificial intelligence, or a related field (advanced degree preferred but not required)
  • Demonstrated experience working with software-based inventions, including user interfaces, algorithms, or platform technologies
  • Exposure to a range of industries (e.g., healthcare technologies, fintech, or other innovation-driven sectors) preferred
  • Strong legal writing, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and work effectively in a fast-paced environment

Bar Admission & Credentials

  • Admission to the New Jersey bar required and New York bar preferred
  • USPTO registration required

The expected pay range for this position is:
$200,000-$215,000 annually
