The purpose of the Intake and Risk Management Conflicts Attorney position is to participate in Maynard Nexsen's risk management activities and to support a team that identifies, analyzes and resolves conflicts of interest issues, working directly with the Firm's attorneys to clear conflicts. The Conflicts Attorney assists with conflicts searches and clearances associated with new client/matter intake and business development efforts, as well as with lateral hires' knowledge and their portable work. The Conflicts Attorney works closely with the Firm's Director of Intake and Risk Management and the General Counsel's office to ensure new matters and hires are compliant with the Firm's conflicts and risk management policies and procedures.
Essential Job Functions:
- Analyze conflicts reports and identify potential conflicts
- Conduct legal research, including review of case law and jurisdictional issues related to conflicts clearance, lateral hiring, ethical walls, and related issues
- Perform conflicts database searches and corporate research
- Communicate conflict management information in a clear and succinct manner to Firm attorneys, management and other necessary internal stakeholders
- Liaise with the General Counsel and other Firm attorneys to identify business conflict issues
- Produce jurisdiction-specific waiver and notice letters and engagement letters as needed
- Confirm need for establishing ethical walls and draft screening memoranda
- Conduct quality control procedures on intake submissions received to assure content integrity; Verify requests and files for accuracy
- Assist with maintenance and update of client/matter data on the conflicts database
- Answer queries from professional staff across the Firm concerning conflict checks and processes.
- Work with the Director of Intake and Risk Management and the General Counsel on formal and informal training on conflicts and other ethical issues
- Work with the Director of Intake and Risk Management and the
- General Counsel to develop and maintain best practices, forms, exemplars and other work product to assist the Firm and its attorneys with compliance with ethical rules across the jurisdictions in which the Firm does business
- Oversee a team of Conflict Analysts to ensure searches are run promptly, correctly, and analyzed efficiently.
- Assist with special projects as needed

- Database searching experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word)
- Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive data
- At least three (3) years' experience as a Conflicts Attorney or similar role in a mid to large law firm setting with demonstrated research and complex problem-solving skills strongly preferred. Experience with analyzing and advising on US conflicts rules is required
- Juris Doctorate degree (JD) or equivalent
- Active member in good standing of a Bar where Maynard Nexsen has an office
