Description:
McLain & Merritt, a well-established, mid-sized law firm, seeks an associate attorney for our St. Simons, Georgia Office with 2-5+ years of experience to join our team in defense of insureds, self-insured retailers, and other businesses in a fast-paced premises liability and tort defense practice. The attorney would be highly involved in all aspects of litigation from inception to conclusion, including client and witness meetings, drafting motions and briefs, depositions, hearings, mediations, trial preparation, and trials for a range of clients, including Fortune 500 companies. The associate in this position would be based in St. Simons and would be leading cases in that region, but would also work on cases throughout Georgia in coordination with the main office in Atlanta/Buckhead.Duties:
- Litigate and lead premises liability and other tort cases with our excellent team from inception through trial in Georgia state and federal courts.
- Pleadings, motion practice, depositions, dispositive motions, pre-trial proceedings, trial, post-trial motions, and appeals.
- Client contact and reporting.
- Coordination with team members in the St. Simons Office as well as the Atlanta/Buckhead Office.
- Ability, willingness, and initiative to travel wherever the work requires.
- Meet billable time entry requirements and other law firm requirements.
- Meet client reporting requirements and litigation initiatives.
- Keep and meet litigation deadlines.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the state bar association.
- Admission to Georgia federal courts a plus--including the Southern District of Georgia.
- 2-5+ years of post-J.D. experience with insurance defense, premises liability, trial practice, civil litigation, and/or judicial clerkship.
- Strong writing, research, oral advocacy, trial, and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.

Pay: Base salary of $100,000.00 to $130,000+ depending on experience, plus opportunity for bonuses based on performance and profitability.
